Harvest Moon Camping Photo Workshop - September 14-15, 2019!
Fall Harvest Moon is one of the most beautiful events of Fall and we’re having a camping workshop to celebrate it! We will camp out at Smith Rock and watch the moon rise at night and then set over the rocks in the morning. We will set up camp, then watch the sunset and the moon rise. Then get up early for the moon set and sunrise. We will then pack up and head back to Bend in the morning.
This is a camping expedition, and you will need to provide all your own camping accessories. i.e. tent, sleeping bag, etc.
Workshop is capped at 6 people to ensure personalized instruction and individualized attention.
Tour Price: $249/Person
Tour Length: Overnight
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. We will probably hike around a little bit to get the best angle for the moon rise and set.
Tour Departure: We will meet at The Bend Tour Company in Downtown Bend, Oregon at 5:00pm on Saturday, Sept 14, 2019. We will meet up and discuss the plan for the evening. We will end back at the same place around 10:00pm.
Guides: What sets our team apart is no matter which guide you are matched with, all are expert published photographers are passionate about creating an tailored photographic experience with you.
Weather Conditions: If the weather is not cooperating for our workshop, we will do our best to find a clear location to observe the moon. If that isn't an option within a close proximity of Bend, then we will reschedule. Note that we cannot offer refunds due to weather unless we cannot go out at all, but will reschedule the workshop instead. Also keep in mind that inclement weather often results in some of the most dramatic and stunning photos! Just make sure you dress and prepare accordingly.
Food/Water: We will prepare a late night snack as well as pastries and coffee in the morning, but dinner is on your own. Water will be supplied at the camp site, but please bring your own container to fill.
What to Wear: You should check the weather forecast prior to the date of the workshop. September can be very volatile, and can cool down A LOT at night, so bring layers for camping. If it’s very cold and or windy, don’t forget a jacket, warm hat and some gloves, especially for shooting at night. We recommend wearing sturdy footwear due to the uneven terrain and we could do some hiking.
Group Size: 2 min - 6 max
Restroom Facilities: We will have access to restrooms from our camp site.
Cell Phones: You can always bring your cell phone along, but with low light, the images you capture with them, might not be the best. Note that cell service is limited during some of the drives. There are USB ports in our vehicles so bring a charging cable if you need one.
Camera Gear: For shooting the moon you want to have a serious zoom lens. A 70-200mm will work, but 300-500mm is ideal for full moon detail. A mid-range lens can also come in handy or if you don’t have a zoom to get more landscape with your shot, as well as shooting moon bursts (24-70 on full frame or 18-55 on crop sensor). Tripods are a must since we are shooting long exposures. You will also need a camera that has a "manual" setting or a way to you can control the aperture, shutter speed and ISO independently. Don’t forget extra batteries, memory cards, and cleaning supplies.
